(Spencer)– Planned Parenthood of The Heartland says it will close two clinics in Iowa, including one in our area, next month.
Spokeswoman Shelby Cloke says the clinic in Spencer will close effective March 15th. A clinic in Fort Madison will be consolidated with ones in Keokuk and Burlington.
In a statement, Planned Parenthood of The Heartland CEO Jill June says the Affordable Care Act and its transformation of the healthcare industry is causing Planned Parenthood to invest its resources in areas where it can make the biggest difference.
Des Moines-based Planned Parenthood of the Heartland provides a variety of services, including abortions at some locations.
It currently lists 20 clinics in Iowa, including the two closing in March, and two in Nebraska, located in Lincoln and Omaha.
