SL Firefighters Respond To Chimney Fire (1)

(Spirit Lake)—No injuries were reported in a chimney fire that broke out late this (Thurs.) morning at a Spirit Lake residence. Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 1107 Ithaca Avenue shortly after 11:00 a.m…(click here for comment.) “When we arrived we found heavy smoke coming out of the chimney. Quickly, we put some, we extinguished the fire, we tried from the bottom to get it out, then we actually had to come from the top to actually put it out, so. It fought for us awhile, but we got it.” Was this like a chimney for a fireplace or woodburning stove? “Yeah, a chimney for a woodburning stove. A reminder, I guess, that if anybody has a woodburning stove to clean it more than once or twice a year.”





Kollasch says they were very fortunate in that they were able to contain the fire to the chimney…(click here for comment.)
Made sure we kept track of that. We didn’t want it to get into the attic or anything like that, because once it did that we would have had a mess then.”

Kollasch says it’s also a good thing the fire was discovered when it was…(click here for comment.) “He was home and he heard it and went outside and saw the flames and quickly called 911 and got us on the roll, which was probably a good thing because it could have been worse.”

Firefighters were on the scene a couple of hours.
