Business South Of Spencer Sustains Minor Damage In Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—Minor damage was reported as the result of a fire Monday at a business on Highway 71 south of Spencer.

Spencer firefighters were called shortly after 11:00 a.m. to Northwest Equipment. Employees of the business had the fire put out by the time firefighters arrived. They checked for any signs of the fire extending into the ceiling and didn’t find any.

Upon investigating, it was determined the fire was the result of some grease rags on a shelving unit that spontaneously combusted.

Damage, which was contained to one room of the business, was estimated at $4,000.

Firefighters were on the scene about a half-hour.

The Spencer Fire Department was assisted by Royal Fire and Rescue, the Spencer Police Department, Spencer Hospital paramedics and Clay County Emergency Management.
