Executive Director Of Humane Society Of NW Iowa Announces Retirement

November 22, 2014

(Milford)—The Executive Director of the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa is announcing her retirement. Kate Wittrock has been with the organization since 2004…(click here for comment.) “I’m very very grateful for everyone throughout the whole community, the whole area, that has supported all of the work that we’ve done at the Humane Society, the generous contributions and just the overall support we’ve received is just phenomenal. And I hope the people will continue doing so long after I’m gone. I really have appreciated the opportunity to lead this great organization.”

Wittrock says she plans to spend her retirement doing a wide variety of things…(click here for comment.)
“I have a lot of things that I want to do. I have some horses that I want to be working with and have got a whole bunch of my own animals that I’d like to be spending a little more time with. The rest of it is filling up time the way retired people do: traveling, a little camping, that kind of thing, maybe get into a book now and again.”

Wittrock says the search for her replacement is still underway…(click here for comment.) “They have several really good candidates and they have not finished their interview process.”

Wittrock says she’ll stay on to help train the new Executive Director once that person has been hired…(click here for comment.) “That was something I didn’t get when I started and it’s such a huge advantage to have someone, whoever’s handing over the reigns, to kind of get you acquainted with how things are done and then just walk away and let you take over. That’s kind of what my plan is. The board of directors is a really good board. They’re going to be there to help the new Executive Director out, and I hope this will be a somewhat seamless transition.”

Wittrock says she’s proud of a variety of accomplishments during her tenure, most notably the fact they were able to fulfill their mission statement. She says several programs, including the “Pause For The Cause” and those that work with young people, were huge successes and she hopes they’ll continue in the future.
