Series Highlighting Lakes Area Communities Focuses On Superior

November 22, 2014

(Superior)– This week’s series highlighting various communities in Dickinson county focuses on Superior. KUOO’s John Adams Sr. recently visited with Mayor Everett Houge…(click here for actuality.) With me today is Everett Houge, Mayor of Superior, and Deanne Bueltel, City Clerk. Everett, any new projects or works in progress for the city of Superior?Well we just got done, we’ve completed our wastewater project that’s been in the works for probably ten years, but we finally got the financing. And for a little town like ours it was a big project. It took a lot of people in the countywide, state and federal government…everybody helped us get it through. But it is ours, we own it. It goes to Estherville so we have no more lagoons and that’s one thing that was a big plus for Dickinson county because we don’t really want any more lagoons. It goes to a processing plant in Estherville. But it’s been a big project for Superior, so.”

That’s great. Tell me a little bit then about the status of your city roads in Superior. “Well we over the last five years we had all of our roads now either paved or blacktopped. It was a project where we’d take so much money at a time that we could afford. But now they are blacktopped or paved. That’s a lot easier to maintain that way.”

Your city government, how often does your council meet and where do they meet at? “The council meets once a month the first Monday of the month here at the city hall in Superior.”
