Governor Issues Disaster Proclamations For Two More NW Iowa Counties

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)—Governor Terry Branstad this past weekend issued a disaster emergency for 17 additional counties, including some in northwest Iowa, to assist communities in preparing for and responding to recent flooding.

Locally, the latest proclamation includes O’Brien and Palo Alto counties.

Similar proclamations were made previously for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Plymouth and Sioux counties in northwest Iowa.

While dry weather over the weekend helped area rivers to recede, the National Weather Service says additional rain is in the forecast this week. Forecasters say there could be renewed flood issues if significant rain hits.

Thunderstorm chances will start to increase again across the region tonight, with rain chances through the balance of the week and even into the upcoming weekend. Temperatures that are well below normal for this time of year will continue as well.
