West Nile Virus present in Dickinson County

November 22, 2014

Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Health have confirmed what’s been suspected all season long…that the West Nile Virus is indeed present again this summer in Dickinson County. Mary Dunleavy of Dickinson County Public Health stated they just received the notification.

Dunleavy said it’s all the more proof you need to protect yourself from mosquitos when you’re outside, even though it’s late in the season.

Dunleavy recommends wearing long pants when you’re outside and to use an insect repellant that contains deet. She says you especially need to use caution in the early morning and evening hours when mosquitos are most active. It’s also a good idea to drain anything in your yard that holds water, as mosquitos breed in those places.
