(Spirit Lake)– A local man who was a key figure in the Shelby Duis case was sentenced Monday in Dickinson County District Court on drug charges.
Jesse Wendelsdorf was acquitted of charges against him in the death of Shelby Duis…the Spirit Lake toddler who died in 2000 after being severely beatened. His girlfriend and Shelby’s mother, Heidi Watkins of Spirit Lake, was found guilty of child endangerment.
Wendelsdorf Monday received two suspended sentences on the drug charges, to which he pled guilty last month. They are in no way connected to the Duis case.
A one year jail sentence on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, was suspended. Wendelsdorf was ordered to pay a fine of 250-dollars and a surcharge of 75-dollars. His driver’s license is to be revoked for 180-days.
A five year jail sentence on a charge of possessing a controlled substance, marijuana, with intent to deliver, was also suspended. Wendelsdorf was placed under probation for two years with the State Department of Correction Services and was ordered into drug treatment.
