(Spirit Lake)– A weekend traffic stop in Spirit Lake has resulted in drug charges against a man and juvenile…both from Spencer.
Spirit Lake police say they stopped a GMC pickup around 1:18 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Erie Avenue for a traffic violation. Authorities say a routine check indicated the driver, 18-year-old Michael Phouvieng Baccam of Spencer, didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
Authorities say a subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of some drug paraphernalia. That resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old male juvenile, also from Spencer.
A further search of the vehicle turned up a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Baccam was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver methamphetamine; use of persons under the age of 18 in the drug trade; prohibited acts; conspiracy; operating while intoxicated, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended. Baccam was booked into the Dickinson county jail. He’s being held on 40-thousand dollars bond.
The juvenile was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver methamphetamine; prohibited acts; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee.
