Water Safety Council Distributes Boating Brochures

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– The Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council has a new tool available to educate boaters on safety issues and laws.

The council’s Phil Petersen tells KUOO news they’ve printed up eight thousand brochures that are being distributed to area resorts, marinas, Maritime Museum, Main Sail in Spirit Lake, the fish hatchery, and other lakes area attractions. Petersen says they eventually hope to have them available at boat ramps as well.

Petersen says the brochures contain information on boating laws, what the various types of buoys mean, and safety guidelines.

Petersen says funding for the brochures was made possible in part by a grant from the National Water Safety Congress and the Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council.
