Wallingford Firefighters Battle Grove Fire

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– The Wallingford Fire Department was called to a grove fire shortly after 9:00 p.m. Sunday just east of Peterson Access near Wallingford.

Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says several trees were on fire in a grove where several smaller fires were burning. Fischer says they had to hook up additional hoses to reach the trees, which were off limits to trucks. Firefighters had to cut down one large tree to prevent the blaze from spreading tree-to-tree. Portable equipment the department received several years from a DNR grant was used to extinguish some of the smaller blazes.

Firefighters were on the scene nearly two hours.

There was no immediate word on a probable cause.
