Voters Will Decide Who Fills Milford Council Vacancy

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A seat on the Milford city council is going to remain vacant until the November election.

Four people had expressed interest in being appointed to the vacancy.

At a meeting Wednesday, the council was repeatedly deadlocked over who to appoint. The meeting was continued to Thursday evening when the council voted unanimously to let the voters decide. City Administrator Brian Reed says the action was taken after receiving new information from the County Auditor and League of Iowa Cities. Reed says the proximity of the November election and the fact the council is deadlocked over who to appoint means they can wait until the November election and let the voters decide who will fill the opening.

Originally the council was operating under the premise it had 40-days from when councilman Detlef Ball resigned to fill the vacancy. That deadline was due to expire today (Friday).

Fern Sybersma, Tom Cooper, Keith Feller and Don Gude had expressed interest in being appointed.
