(Spirit Lake)– Plans by the Veteran’s Administration to build six new outpatient clinics in Iowa, including one in Spirit Lake, are still on track, even though it was announced last week a V-A hospital in Knoxville will be closing its doors.
A news release from U-S Senator Chuck Grassley says the new outpatient clinics are still scheduled to be built, but they aren’t slated to be in operation until 2012.
Grassley says the outpatient clinics are part of a modernization the V-A is going through.
According to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, nearly 80 percent of the healthcare provided by the V-A hospitals is outpatient care.
In addition to Spirit Lake, V-A outpatient clinics are also scheduled to be built in Carroll, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids, Ottumwa and Shenandoah.
