(Spirit Lake)– An upgrade of Spirit Lake’s water treatment plant is going to cost more than first thought.
The city council Tuesday opened bids on the project…but stopped short of making an award. The low bidder was Oak View Construction of Red Oak, Iowa at 2,897,000-dollars. The engineer’s estimate was 2,650,000-dollars. The city has applied for a 2.75 million dollar low-interest loan through an Iowa D-N-R Revolving Fund. The council Tuesday voted to postpone awarding the bid until they know for sure whether or not the loan is approved.
An upgrade of the water treatment plant is needed to meet new federal and state requirements that are forthcoming.
