UDMO Back-To-School Project Runs Short On Donations

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Going back to school is supposed to be a fun and exciting time for many kids. But it could be far less than that for some less fortunate children in Dickinson county this year. Laurie Ruuf of Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Spirit Lake tells KUOO news as of right now, the agency has about 111 children that have signed up for the program. As of right now, Ruuf says they only have about 40-dollars available for each.

Ruuf says the program is intended to give less fortunate students a feeling of self-esteem when they go back to school. Without that, she’s concerned some of those students could have some real difficult times. As a result, she’s putting out a last minute plea to individuals, businesses and organizations to donate. You can do so by contacting Upper Des Moines Opportunity at 336-1211 or by stopping by their office on the southeast side of the Great Lakes Mall in Spirit Lake.

August 12th is the deadline.
