U-S Senator Tom Harkin Sounds Off On Accounting Scandals

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– U-S Senator Tom Harkin says congress will consider bills after the fourth of July break to address recent accounting scandals.

The scandals have rocked Wall Street and several major corporations such as Enron and World Com.

Harkin says bills are in the works that would make accountants more responsible.

Harkin adds they’ll also be looking at whether or not changes need to be made to the securities and exchange act. He says we’re in a new economy and some of the original laws set out in that act may no longer be appropriate or effective.

Harkin was in Spirit Lake Saturday for a reception hosted by Elinor and Berkley Bedell.
