U Of O Foundation Awards $71,000 To 7 Charities

(Spirit Lake)– The University of Okoboji Foundation announced Tuesday it’s awarded 71-thousand dollars to seven lakes area charities.

Camp Foster was awarded 10-thousand dollars to construct a “challenge course” consisting of an alpine tower and a boulder wall; the Dickinson County Historical Society and Museum were awarded 10-thousand dollars to purchase a dry-sprinkler fire protection system; eight thousand was awarded to Discovery House for a new heating system; the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum was awarded 25-thousand dollars for its parking lot project; Three thousand dollars was awarded to the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue for the new fire boat; Shepherd’s Fold was awarded 10-thousand dollars for its “Cherish House” project; and the Spirit Lake Protective Association will receive five thousand dollars to assist in the construction of a new fireworks barge.

The U of O Foundation received 15 applications requesting a total of 331,870-dollars. The 71-thousand dollars in grants that were awarded is in addition to a 75-thousand dollar grant previously awarded for the new YMCA…bringing the total amount of gifts awarded this year to 146-thousand dollars.

Since its founding 15 years ago, the University of Okoboji Foundation has has awarded slighly more than 1.2 million dollars in grants.
