Two Vehicle Crash Injures Spirit Lake Woman

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 71 and 19th Street in Milford sent one person to the hospital.

Milford police say 19-year-old Megan Kaiser of rural Milford was pulling onto Highway 71 from the Cenex gas pumps when her vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. Authorities say Kaiser was attempting to start it when she was t-boned by a northbound vehicle driven by 21-year-old Melanie Reppe of Spirit Lake.

Reppe was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare complaining of a possible head injury. She was treated and released. No injuries were reported to Kaiser.

Two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Kaiser; a 1993 Ford Probe driven by Reppe sustained an estimated three thousand dollars in damage.

Authorities say the airbag in the vehicle driven by Kaiser deployed.

The crash blocked all four lanes of traffic on the highway, which had to be closed while crews removed the wreckage.

Police say the mishap, which occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday, remains under investigation.
