(Milford)– A chase early this (Thurs.) morning that started in Spencer ended in a fiery crash in Dickinson county.
The chase started around 12:30 this morning. It went north of Spencer on Highway 71 with a Clay county Sheriff’s Deputy in pursuit. The deputy had to drop out of the pursuit after sustaining a flat tire when he drove over stop sticks. The chase continued north and crossed the county line…with Dickinson county officers in pursuit. Stopsticks were deployed just south of Milford near the Williams Brothers Pipeline terminal. The vehicle being pursued went over the sticks and sustained a flat front tire…but the chase continued…going through Milford. It ended moments later on the north edge of Milford. The driver lost control near the intersection with 202nd Street. The vehicle rolled…and caught fire. The occupants, identified as 32-year-old David Eugene McKee of Hartley and 40-year-old Dennis Dean Wadsley of Sibley, were thrown from the vehicle. They were taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Wadsley was transferred to Avera/McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls where he’s listed in critical condition. McKee was released from DCMH late this (Thurs.) morning.
Spencer Police said late this (Thurs.) afternoon no charges had been filed as investigators are still trying to figure out who was driving the vehicle.
