(Washington, D.C.)– U-S Senator Tom Harkin announced Thursday 23 Iowa schools will receive more than 62 million dollars through the TRIO Student Support Services Program.
The program helps low-income and first generation college students plan, prepare and succeed in college.
In his Fiscal Year 2006 budget, President Bush proposed eliminating two other initiatives in the TRIO Program–Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound.
Locally, the TRIO Student Support Services Program at Iowa Lakes Community College will receive nearly 268-thousand dollars while the program at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon will receive 230-thousand dollars.
