(Spirit Lake)– Plans to re-build a road in the Triboji Beach area on the north side of West Lake Okoboji remain at a standstill.
The county plans to widen and pave War Eagle Boulevard. But a utility junction box, owned by Qwest Communications, is in the way. The county maintains the box is in its right-of-way. Talks with the company to try to get it moved have been ongoing for months, and so far, haven’t been successful. Qwest officials say moving the box will be very expensive and that it would require a service outage while the work is being done.
County officials say they want to see detailed reports on that. The board of supervisors Tuesday directed Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders to write a letter to Qwest. The company will have 30 days in which to respond once it gets the letter.
The county wants to proceed with the War Eagle Boulevard project, although some who live in the Triboji area don’t want the road upgraded.
