Triboji Beach Residents Request Streetlights & Fire Hydrants

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some residents in the Triboji Beach area on the north side of West Lake Okoboji say the residential area is too dark, and they’re requesting the county do something about it.

Norm Pixler appeared on the residents’ behalf at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting. He was directed to work with Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders and the Engineer’s Office on the possibility of getting easements for light poles.

But one supervisor is concerned over the possibility of special treatment. Paul Johnson reminded fellow supervisors the county turned down a request for lighting from one of his constituents in the Pikes Point area.

Pixler also put in a plug for fire hydrants in the Triboji area, saying they had visited with Osceola Rural Water, which serves that area. However Pixler said they were told the company does not have the capacity to serve hydrants. Instead he says they’re looking at dry hydrants. Pixler was directed to research the possible availability of grants for the project.

Johnson and fellow supervisor Mardi Allen also expressed concern over reports of kids riding golf carts in the streets in that area, and of motorists running stop signs. They requested the Sheriff’s Office to step up patrols in the Triboji area.
