(Orange City)– A former northwest Iowa nursing home worker accused of killing a patient has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first degree murder.
26-year-old Christie Van Oort of Rock Valley entered the plea today (Mon.) during an arraignment in Sioux County District Court. She’s scheduled to go on trial May 20th.
Van Oort was charged in the death of 87-year-old Dick Post of Rock Valley, who died in April of last year while he was a patient at the Valley Manor Care Center in Rock Valley. An autopsy report indicates Post was choked to death with food.
Van Oort is being held in the Osceola county jail on bond of 100-thousand dollars.
