Trails Reps. Meet With Dickinson Co. Supervisors

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Representatives of the Dickinson County Trails Association were at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting to give an update on upcoming projects and to make sure the county is still on board.

Specifically, they’re requesting the county include provisions for a three foot-wide trail along county road M-56 on the east side of Big Spirit Lake. The road is scheduled for re-surfacing in 2005.

Dave Murphy of the Trails Association told the supervisors the Iowa Department of Transportation wants to see the project proceed, saying the trail is even identified by the state on some long range planning maps.

The trail widening part of the M-56 project has an estimated cost of 150-thousand dollars. Murphy said the Trails Association is willing to pay 50-thousand of that.

The supervisors took no action Tuesday on the M-56 trail project. A bidletting on the project is tentatively set for this coming March.
