November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Drug charges have been filed against a 17-year-old male juvenile from Spirit Lake in connection with a routine traffic stop early Monday morning.

The officer making the stop reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle. A search turned up a large bag containing about three ounces of what’s believed to be marijuana, along with a smaller bag of the substance and some drug paraphernalia.

The juvenile, who’s name wasn’t released, was charged with possession of a controlled substance…marijuana with intent to deliver; possession of a controlled substance, marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and prohibited acts. Authorities say a drug-related operating while intoxicated charge is pending.

The juvenile was processed and released to the custody of his parents.

The traffic stop took place shortly after midnight.
