(Undated)– Three men were injured in separate hunting accidents in the region as pheasant season got underway over the weekend.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 19-year-old Ryan Hoover of Burt was injured Saturday afternoon when someone in his hunting party shot at a pheasant. A pllet struck Hoover in the chin. Another pellet hit him just under his left eyebrow. He was taken to an Algona hospital.
Also Saturday, Steven Christopher of Eagle Grove received pellets in his face while hunting south of Eagle Grove. Christopher, believed to be in his early 20’s, was taken to a Fort Dodge hospital where he was treated and released. Family members were taking him to a specialist in Iowa City to be treated for a pellet under his left eye.
Sunday, 44-year-old Dan Halstead of Lakeville, Minnesota took a full load of pellets in his right hand after shotgun fired while he had his hand over the end of the muzzle. Halstead, who was hunting northeast of Pocahontas, was taken to the Pocahontas hospital where he was treated and released.
Statewide, seven hunters were injured in separate incidents this past weekend.
