Testimony Concludes In Wendelsdorf Drug Trial

November 22, 2014

(Sioux City)– A woman convicted in the death of her two-year-old daughter says she and her former boyfriend bought and sold drugs.

Heidi Watkins has been on the stand in the federal drug trial of Jesse Wendelsdorf in Sioux City.

Watkins is serving 50 years in prison for child endangerment for the death of her daughter, Shelby Duis in 2000 in Spirit Lake.

Wendelsdorf was acquitted of murder charges in the child’s death.

Wendelsdorf, now of Sioux county, is on trial this week on four drug charges. Tuesday, Watkins testified they bought and sold methamphetamine and marijuana.

Other meth dealers also testified they had sold drugs to him in the late 1990’s.

Testimony in the trial concluded Wednesday with Wendelsdorf’s dad, Jaime, taking the stand. The case then went to the jury, which deliberated about two hours before calling it quits for the day. Deliberations resume today (Thursday).
