(Terril)– Some Advanced Biology students from Terril High School have been awarded a grant for a service learning project from the Iowa Conservation Education Council.
The students wrote and submitted two grant proposals: one for building and placing bluebird houses at Spring Run; the other for planting a learning garden with native plants in front of the school in Terril.
The birdhouse project was selected for funding based on its level of partnering and potential community benefit. Partners include Shopper’s Supply of Spirit Lake, who donated materials; and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, which will help site the houses.
Students involved in the project are Brian Mehan, Steven Sawyer, Armin Schnelle, James Johansen and Katrina McGranahan.
Although it wasn’t chosen for funding, the learning garden project will be completed using alternative funding.
