Terril Steering Committee Hears From DOE Consultant

November 23, 2014

(Terril)– The steering committee that’s looking into possible sharing options for the Terril school district heard earlier this week from a consultant with the Iowa Department of Education.

Eric Heitz reported on meetings he had recently with three neighboring districts that could be possible candidates for a sharing agreement. Those are Graettinger, Ruthven-Ayrshire and Okoboji. Heitz indicated all three want a more definitive timeframe and some kind of a plan from Terril. Heitz said he got the impression from Okoboji that while they might be interested in sharing, they probably would not be in favor of sending any students to Terril. The steering committee’s goal is to keep a school in Terril.

Heitz recommended the committee have a plan by this fall if they want something for the 2003-2004 school year.

The committee took no action on making a recommendation. Another meeting with Heitz will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29th. Heitz will issue a formal report at that time with sharing options and recommendations.
