(Spirit Lake)– The Terril School Board and representatives of its sharing committee met in a joint session Wednesday evening with the Spirit Lake School Board to talk about possible future sharing options. It was the latest in a series of meetings Terril school officials have been having with neighboring districts. School Board President Calvin Sawyer says the district will be faced with serious financial concerns several years from now…and predictions of declining enrollment are making it critical they do something before the state intervenes.
When it comes to possible sharing options with Spirit Lake, the group seemed most interested in upper level high school courses such as Calculus and Physics. The possibility of sharing some additional teachers and administrators was also discussed. Currently Terril and Spirit Lake share an art teacher.
No action was taken last night.
Terril Superintendent Bruce Tepfer says they’ve been very pleased with the response they’ve had so far from the districts they’ve visited, which in addition to Spirit Lake include Ruthven-Ayrshire, Spencer, Okoboji and Estherville. They’ll meet next week with Graettinger.
