(Windom, Mn.)– A boating accident in southwest Minnesota has claimed a life.
The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday that two people who were riding in a boat had fallen overboard into Cottonwood Lake in Windom.
Authorities say the boat was operated by a 17-year-old female. After realizing two passengers were no longer on board, she turned around and attempted to locate them. One of them, 20-year-old Elizabeth Oakland of Mountain Lake, was found a short time later. Oakland was taken to the Windom hospital with no apparent injuries. The body of the other passenger, 25-year-old Craig Robert Wolff of Lake City, Minnesota was recovered in about 10 feet of water by the Windom Rescue Crew.
Another person in the boat, an eight year-old child, remained on board and wasn’t injured.
