(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against an Oelwein, Iowa man in connection with a recent rash of residential and vehicle burglaries in Milford and Spirit Lake. Some of them took place while residents were home sleeping.
Milford and Spirit Lake police have filed multiple counts of burglary and possession of stolen property against 36-year-old Craig Hurst of Oelwein.
As we reported previously, Hurst was initially arrested on November 27th by Milford police after a foot pursuit. He was charged at that time with trespass and interference with official acts. He has since been released from jail after posting bond on those charges.
Authorities say a subsequent investigation by Milford police led them to identify Hurst as a suspect in the various burglaries resulting in the new charges. Milford police say their investigation resulted in the recovery of items identified to have been stolen from the burglaries in Spirit Lake and Milford. Several items have yet to be claimed by their rightful owners.
Authorities say their investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
The public is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency if they see Hurst, who is currently at-large. He’s described as a white male about six feet tall weighing 185 pounds.
