(Des Moines)– Iowa Supreme Court justices will hear an appeal on behalf of Heidi Watkins next month. Watkins was convicted in the death of her daughter, Shelby Duis.
Spirit Lake attorney Michael Johnson says he’ll argue that some trial information in the case of Heidi Watkins should have been dismissed due to inconsistencies from the state. As a result, Johnson says there was reasonable doubt and Watkins should not have been guilty.
Johnson also maintains the charges were constitutionally vague.
Watkins’ attorneys also requested a new trial last summer before the Iowa Court of Appeals. But the court affirmed the earlier ruling by Judge Joseph Straub.
Supreme court justices will hear the appeal November 6th.
