Supervisors Vote For Liability Study On Lower Gar Outlet

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Longstanding controversy over whether or not to replace culverts at Lower Gar Outlet with a bridge is entering a new stage.

The Dickinson county board of supervisors voted four-to-one Monday to have Jim Hudson, a Pocahontas drainage attorney, draft an opinion as to what liability, if any, there would be and who would shoulder it if the decision is made not to do anything at all with the outlet, or likewise if something was done and there should be a flood downstream.

The cost of Hudson’s opinion is not to exceed 500-dollars.

Supervisor Chair David Gottsche cast the lone no vote, saying he feels such a study isn’t needed, based on previous studies done by the U-S Army Corps of Engineers.
