(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday took no action on a proposal to purchase the Vacationland Laundromat. They continued a public hearing on the matter to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30th.
Bud Kyle, a Milford resident and city council member, presented the supervisors with a petition calling for them not to purchase anymore real estate until a survey is taken on what to do about the courthouse. Supervisor Chair June Goldman said a survey is still in the works but has been delayed because the person at Iowa State University in charge of it has been transferred to a different job.
Others who spoke at the hearing praised the supervisors for considering the purchase…saying it makes sense because the county already owns several adjoining properties. They feel it’s important for the county to have the land to keep its options open for any future courthouse plans.
The county is offering 85-thousand dollars over five years at six percent interest for the laundromat property. It’s located just west of the courthouse on Ithaca Avenue.
