Supervisors Consider Request For Backlogged Vacation Pay

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A request for 26,600-dollars in back wages and vacation pay filed by a couple of employees in the former County Attorney’s office was discussed at Tuesday’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting.

New County Attorney Rosalise Olson said the money would have to come out of her budget, and that it would cause problems. She says a provision in the county’s personnel policy prohibits employees from carrying over unused vacation from one year to the next unless it’s been previously approved by the department head.

After some discussion, the supervisors decided to meet with Olson and former County Attorney Ned Bjornstad to see if something can be worked out.

Olson also suggested the personnel policy should be reviewed and updated on a more regular basis. The supervisors have agreed to look into it.
