(Spirit Lake)– An autopsy has determined asphyxia was involved in the death of four and-a-half month old Shania Laird of Spirit Lake. The infant was found dead at her home at 904 12th street in Spirit Lake last Thursday afternoon. She is the daughter of 36-year-old Lori Mason and 37-year-old John Laird of Spirit Lake.
Police Chief John Martyr tells KUOO news they aren’t prepared to say exactly how the asphyxiation occurred…as an investigation continues. An agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was still in Spirit Lake today.
The autopsy was conducted last Friday by Doctor Bard Randall of Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Crime tape that surrounded the residence was taken down Saturday afternoon.
