(Spirit Lake)– Storms packing damaging winds, heavy rain and hil ripped through southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa late Monday afternoon and evening.
In the Iowa Great Lakes the first wave rolled through between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. producing funnel clouds, winds gusting to around 50 miles-per-hour, torrential rain and hail.
Wind damage was reported in Spirit Lake, mostly tree damage. A portion of a roof was blown off a warehouse building near the Ready Mix plant with debris landing across the street at the Alliant Energy complex. A tree toppled just inches from a house at the corner of 23rd Street and Keokuk Avenue…but there was no damage to the house and no injuries.
Power outages were widespread. Power was out to portions of Spirit Lake for atleast two hours.
Nearly an inch of rain fell at the KUOO studios but there were some reports much greater than that, including nearly four inches on the north side of Big Spirit Lake.
