State Park In Jackson County To Be Impacted By Budget Cuts

November 23, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– There will be some unhappy campers in Minnesota this fall.

The state’s Department of Natural Resources will no longer allow overnight camping at 24 state parks after Labor Day. It’s one of several cuts the agency is implementing as it copes with a 13 million dollar budget shortfall.

Minnesota D-N-R spokesman Bill Morrissey says camping will be closed at parks that are the least used among the agency’s 72 parks and recreation areas.

Kilen Woods State Park northwest of Jackson is one of them.

The parks will be closed to overnight use effective September 3rd until Memorial Day weekend of next year.
