Standing Room Only Crowd Attends Courthouse Meeting In Spirit Lake

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Over a hundred people attended a public input meeting Tuesday evening in Spirit Lake on what to do about the Dickinson county courthouse.

Many of the comments were similar to those made at similar meetings in Milford and Terril. And Doctor Vern Ryan of the Iowa State University Sociology Department, who’s helping facilitate the meetings, says some common themes and concerns are apparent. He says they include the cost, efficient use of tax dollars, practicality, location, and old versus new versus refurbished.

Once the series of meetings concludes, Ryan says they’ll but together an executive summary to present to the board of supervisors. He says they hope to have that done by June 1st.

Additional recommendations and concerns on the courthouse issue can be submitted in writing to Corrie Petersen at the Dickinson County Extension Office or by e-mail at coryp@iastate.edu.

April 15th is the deadline for doing that.
