(Spirit Lake)– A new designation for the Spring Run wetlands complex east of Arnolds Park will be the topic of a public meeting next week in Spirit Lake.
Doug Haar, Wildlife Program Diversity Coordinator for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says Spring Run has been named as one of Iowa’s first official “bird conservation areas”. Haar says the designation is given to large tracts of land that hold special value for nesting or migratory birds, especially those varieties suffering population declines nationwide.
Haar says the designation will make it possible to improve habitat.
A public informational meeting to further explain the new designation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9th at the Spirit Lake Public Library.
