Spirit Lake To Vote On City Cable Research

November 23, 2014

Residents of Spirit Lake will tell the city whether or not to research a municipal cable system in November. The city council last night placed the issue of feasibility study on the general election ballot. Councilman Pat McNorton feels a growing resentment in town over increasing rates. According to McNorton’s research, municipal systems in Spencer, Everly, Algona, and Haywarden have been popular with the public. McNorton also stated that he expects other Dickinson County communities to follow suit. The Wahpeton city council is scheduled to take up the issue tomorrow night. The vote November 4th will only be whether or not to proceed with a feasibility study. Another election would be necessary to actually establish a municipal cable system in Spirit Lake.
