Spirit Lake Schools To Continue Internet Service…For Now, Atleast

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school district’s internet access service known as “Spiritnet” is going to continue…for now atleast.

The school board has been looking at scrapping the service as a budget cutting move. The district was forced to cut 143-thousand dollars from the current school year’s budget because of the state mandated 4.3 percent across-the-board budget cuts. The district implemented 146-thousand dollars in cuts October 25th…and decided Monday evening those will be enough for now. But superintendent Tim Grieves says it’s likely the district will have to trim atleast another one or two percent from its budget in the upcoming school year…depending on figures from the state’s revenue estimating conference. They hope to know for sure in late January or early February. At that point, the board indicated Monday evening they may have no choice but to do away with Spiritnet.
