(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake residents looking to get rid of old appliances, electronic devices and other items will have to purchase a tag for them under a new system that goes into effect Monday, April 14th.
Tags to dispose of old appliances and electronic items will cost 10 dollars each; car tires with no rims will cost five dollars each; truck tires with no rims will be 15-dollars each. Tags for miscellaneous items not exceeding two cubic yards will cost 10 dollars each, and lose items must be tied. Anything over two cubic yards will require a dumpster and will be charged dumpster pickup rates plus weight. No batteries or other hazardous materials will be picked up.
Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says the city won’t be making money on the deal. He says the tag fees will just cover the city’s cost to dispse of the items. Dolphin says they’ve contracted with an Adel, Iowa firm that will recycle the white goods that are collected.
Dolphin says for now the city will still hold its annual spring clean-up days, but even then he says you’ll need to purchase tags to get rid of the previously mentioned items.
Tags are available for purchase from city hall. Dolphin says all you need to do is put a tag on the item and set it out at the curb and city crews will pick it up.
