Spirit Lake Police Investigate Robbery

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man sustained minor injuries in a weekend robbery.

Police say a male subject posing as a hospice salesman stopped at the Vern Sheldon residence at 1207 Fargo Avenue on Saturday. At about 10:40 a.m. Sunday, the man called Sheldon back asking if he could come back to his residence and visit some more. Authorities say when the man came back, another man was with him. When Sheldon turned around to pour them some coffee, one of the men attacked him…wrapping him in duct tape and spraying him with mace. Authorities say the two men made off with a large, undetermined amount of money and other items.

The only description they have is that one of the men is short and heavy-set; believed to be in his 50’s or 60’s with short, brown hair. The other is described as being in his 30’s about six feet tall and weighing about 175 to 180 pounds.

The two got away in what’s described as a full-size, newer silver or gray pickup with no topper. The make and model of the vehicle isn’t known. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Spirit Lake Police Department at 336-5776.
