Spirit Lake & Milford Agree: Another Study Is Needed On Airport

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake and Milford agree on one thing: a second, more detailed study is needed to address the future of an airport in Dickinson county.

The Spirit Lake City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to form an oversite committee with the city of Milford to look into the possibility of a second study. It’s estimated to cost between 30-thousand and 40-thousand dollars. The committee will set the wheels in motion to apply for state and federal assistance that would cover up to 90 percent of the cost. A timeframe for getting the second study complete hasn’t been set.

The Spirit Lake council decided to proceed to the next step after learning the Dickinson County Airport Authority was also in favor of the move.

The Milford City Council approved a similar motion a couple weeks ago.

The initial study, which was recently completed, suggests the current airports in Milford and Okoboji are no longer adequate.
