Spirit Lake Man Lands Special Award

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake man has netted a special award co-sponsored each year by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Spirit Lake-based Pure Fishing.

Tom Koster has been named the 2001 recipient of the Brass Bluegill Award. It honors people who go out of their way to promote fishing in Iowa.

Koster was sited for his work with over 800 children the past three years. He has been involved in a similar program for adults, known as “Fish Iowa”.

Koster tells KUOO news he gets a lot of personal satisfaction out of teaching people to fish. He says there’s nothing at all like watching a child’s reaction when he or she lands their first fish.
