(Lake Park)– A collision of two trucks at an uncontrolled intersection near Lake Park has claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.
The victim is identified as 69-year-old James Duane Peterson of Spirit Lake…the driver of one of the trucks. The other truck driver, 29-year-old Christopher Hesseltine of Spirit Lake, sustained head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol says the truck driven by Hesseltine was southbound on 150th Avenue and failed to yield to Petersen…who was eastbound on 125th Street. The two trucks collided in the intersection…coming to rest in the southeast ditch.
Hesseltine was charged for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right at an uncontrolled instersection.
Eight thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the truck driven by Hesseltine; 25-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the one driven by Petersen.
The mishap took place shortly after 3:00 p.m. yesterday.
