(Spirit Lake)– An incident early this (Tuesday) morning at a Spirit Lake residence has resulted in multiple charges including attempted murder and kidnapping, against a Spirit Lake man.
Spirit Lake police say it stems from a 911 call the Dickinson County Communications Center received around 12:40 a.m. from 1406 Gary Avenue in Spirit Lake in which no one would speak.
Upon arriving on the scene, police found a female victim who they say had been violently assaulted with a knife. The victim, who’s name wasn’t released, was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Following an investigation, police arrested a suspect in the case. He’s identified as 39-year-old James Naujock of Spirit Lake. Naujock was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of kidnapping in the first degree…a class “A” felony; attempted murder…a class “B” felony; willful injury…a class “C” felony; assault while participating in a felony…a class “C” felony; going armed with intent…a class “D” felony; domestic abuse assault…a class “D” felony; interference with official acts…a class “D” felony; and obstruction of emergency communications…a simple misdemeanor.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Okoboji and Arnolds Park Police Departments, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
