(Spirit Lake)– An investigation into an assault that took place earlier this month has resulted in a charge being filed against a Spirit Lake man.
Spirit Lake police and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a complaint of an assault that took place in the 800 block of Lake Street on June 1st. The victim, an unidentified 40-year-old male from Jackson, was transported to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls for treatment of what’s described as severe injuries. He has since been released.
Authorities say a search warrant was executed Friday on a residence at 1406 Hill Avenue in Spirit Lake as part of the investigation. It resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Brian Morris of Spirit Lake who was charged with willful injury, a class “C” felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a 10-thousand dollar fine.
Morris posted bond of 10-thousand dollars and was released.
Authorities say their investigation continues and more arrests are possible.
